LAKKI MARWAT, Feb 1: DCO Mohammad Ayaz Mandokhel, in his capacity as political agent and district magistrate of FR Lakki Marwat, on Tuesday sentenced two narcotics smugglers to life imprisonment and fined them Rs500,000 each. Both the convicts were sent to district jail Lakki Marwat.

An official said, Humayun and Mohammad Tahir, residents of Charsadda, had been arrested in Tangi area of FR Lakki Marwat on Dec 10, 2010 with 200 grams heroin. They were charged under sections of Prohibition Ordinance 1979 and Frontier Crimes Regulation.

They were handed down the sentence on the recommendation of a tribal jirga and completion of trial into the case. Each convict will undergo another two year simple imprisonment in case of non-payment of fine.

CLEANLINESS DRIVE: The Lakki tehsil municipal administration has launched a cleanliness drive in the town to make the urban locality clean and beautiful and provide better civic facilities to the residents.

The TMA employees have been tasked to lift garbage and clean sewerage drains in all parts of Lakki city on daily basis. Workers of sanitation department and sweepers have been instructed to dispose of garbage dumps and remove dirt and filth from sewerage drains. They have also been directed to clean roads and streets and sprinkle water on them daily to avoid spread of dust-borne diseases.

“The drive will help keep the city beautiful and provide a clean environment to the residents of the town”, said tehsil administrator Qalam Badshah Khattak. He said the employees of municipal administration had removed heaps of garbage from parts of Lakki city.

He urged people to throw litter and dirt in the dustbins set up by the TMA and extend cooperation to the employees to keep the city clean and beautiful.
