KARACHI, Jan 20: A Chinese national suffered gunshot wounds when he resisted an armed robbery attempt just outside a private bank in Clifton on Thursday, police said.

The police added that Yun Schu and his aide Nue Yan were getting in the car (bearing the registration number AJY-191) near the Clifton underpass after drawing Rs5 million from a private bank branch when they were waylaid by three armed men riding two motorbikes.

“They pulled out pistols and asked the two foreig- ners to hand over the bag of cash,” said DSP Qamar Ahmed, the area's supervisory police officer.

“However, both of them did not get into a panic and resisted the robbers. They had an exchange of words with the bandits when one of the latter fired at them and ran away without taking cash.”

The firing left Mr Yun wounded. He was rushed to a private hospital for treatment.

The officer quoted doctors as saying that the victim was in a stable condition.

“With the help the two foreigners, we are trying to ascertain the appearance of the suspects,” said the DSP.

He added that the foreigners were employees of an engineering company and staying in Karachi on an official assignment.

“The Boat Basin police station has registered a case (FIR 36/2011) under Sections 392 (punishment for robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code against uni- dentified suspects on a complaint of Mr Nue,” the DSP said.
