KARACHI, Jan 7: Federal government quality controllers carried out a raid on a super store in the Lines Area and seized substandard products and the goods produced by unregistered companies.

Pakistan Standards Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) official Rehmatullah Memon told Dawn on Friday that a team of the Authority raided the Makro Habib Super Stores located in the Lines Area of Saddar and found substandard apple juice manufactured/packed by three companies — Sheezan, Polly and Popular — on sale.

He said that samples of the juice were taken and tested in the authority’s mobile lab. The results showed that the products did not meet the parameters as prescribed by the PSQCA, he added.

The official said the store was also selling various products of companies not registered with the PSCQA.

He said that the unregistered products included ‘Cheer’ bottled drinking water; ‘Cheer Cola’; ‘Ora’ orange juice and powder; ‘Taam’ turmeric, curry and chilli powder; ‘Loose’ brand tea of Al-Haram Company; ‘Marhaba’ and ‘Lifestyle’ honey, etc.

He said that all the substandard and unregistered goods were sealed and locked in a portion of the super store.

Show-cause notices have also been issued to the companies manufacturing substandard goods and those which were marketing their products without getting themselves registered, according to him.

Mr Memon advised the companies registered with the PSQCA to print the new logo of the institution on their products as the products carrying the old logo would be considered unregistered. He also advised the companies to clearly print the ingredients of the product on the pack along with the manufacturing and sell-by dates, weight, nutrition value and other necessary information.
