KARACHI, Jan 2: A man was killed by unidentified persons on resisting an apparent kidnapping bid early Sunday morning, police said.

The police added that some dance performers were returning home after performing at a wedding ceremony on Saturday night when they were intercepted by unidentified persons on main Manghopir Road at 5.30am.

They tried to kidnap the dance performer, identified as Farzana, but as her associate resisted the suspects fired at him and fled, SITE DSP Zahid Husain said.

“Sher Khan, 28, was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival,” the DSP said.

The victim and performers resided in Gulistan Colony at Mirza Adam Khan Road, the police said.

Killed

A 12-year-old boy was killed by a stray bullet in Ranchore Lines on Sunday.

A duty officer of the Garden police station said that Abdul Samad, son of Mohammad Farooq, was playing along with his friends on the rooftop of Hina Apartments when a stay bullet hit him.

The official quoted residents as saying that the incident shocked the children and created panic in the area. The boy succumbed to his wound on the way to the Civil Hospital, the police said.

JUI man attacked

A leader of the Jamiat Ulema Islam was wounded in an attack within the limits of the New Karachi Industrial Area police station on Sunday evening, police said.

The police added that Feroz Kolya was heading to a local mosque in Sector 11-E when unidentified persons fired at him and escaped. The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

SP New Karachi Karamullah Samoo said that Mr Kolya was in a stable condition.

Accidents

A young motorcyclist died in a hit-and-run accident in West Wharf on Sunday morning, police said.

They added that Mohammad Majid, 30, was on his way when a fast-moving vehicle hit him in the West Wharf area. He was taken to the Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead, the police said.

Earlier on Saturday night, a fast-moving car overturned in the Landhi area causing instant death of its occupant, Zubair. The police later shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
