LAHORE, Dec 27: The National Accountability Bureau Punjab has summoned a federal minister, a senator, a former minister, a former attorney general and 13 others for Dec 30 on the charges of transferring commercial land in Lahore which was cautioned (not for sale/purchase or transfer) by the Supreme Court to their names.

According to NAB, the Supreme Court in 2006 had declared the land of a marriage hall (Kasr-i-Zouq) in Gulberg “non-salable/non-purchasable” after its owners, Sheikh Ayub and Sheikh Mohsin, allegedly committed a fraud to the tune of Rs1,385 million through a forex company.

“We have summoned federal minister Warqar Ahmed Khan, Senator Gulzar Ahmed Khan, former minister Iqbal Tika, former attorney general Malik Abdul Qayyum, former senior police officer Azhar Hasan Nadeem, Brig (retired) Tahir Saeed, Teefy Butt and six others for Dec 30 as they are beneficiaries in the transfer of the land in question,” NAB director Attiqur Rehman told Dawn on Monday.

Mr Rehman said the summons had been issued on the direction of the Supreme Court.

REFERENCE: The National Accountability Bureau Punjab has filed a reference in an accountability court against a former postmaster of Bahawalnagar on the charges of embezzling public money amounting to Rs475,337.

According to the reference, Muhammad Saleem during his posting as Bahawalnagar Cantt sub-post office in charge in 2006 misappropriated the sum through bogus money-order receipts and miscellaneous heads of account.

The accused used to issue money-order receipts to remitters and also dispatch money-orders booked to respective offices for payment so that no public complaint might occur.
