KARACHI, Dec 26: At least two political activists were killed in separate acts of targeted killing on Sunday in the city.

An office-bearer of the Pakistan People's Party was shot dead when unidentified men opened fire at the party office in Block-4 of Gulshan-i-Iqbal early on Sunday morning.

Police said Abdul Hai Baloch was sitting outside the party office with some friends early on Sunday morning when unidentified men riding a motorcycle opened fire at them and escaped.

The victims were rushed to a nearby private hospital where Mr Baloch was pronounced dead on arrival. However, two of his associates were admitted for treatment.

Following the incident, area people and party workers took to the streets and pelted passing by vehicles with stones. They set fire to used tyres and blocked the roads.

As the police of the respective police station were unable to control the situation, reinforcements were called in.

In the other incident, an activist of the Pasban was killed by unidentified men in North Karachi on Sunday.

Police said Mohammad Irfan was sitting outside his home in Bilal Colony when two men riding a motorcycle came and opened fire at him.

The suspects fled after the firing.

The incident occurred within the remit of the Khawaja Ajmair Nagri police station.

The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Hospital sources said the victim suffered bullet wounds in his upper torso and head.

'Bandit' killed A suspected bandit was killed while two of his accomplices managed to flee in a botched hold-up at a shop at Gurumandir on Sunday.

A duty officer of the Jamshad Quarters police station said that three men barged into a bakery located in the commercial area outside the Jamia Binoria mosque.

The suspects snatched Rs3,200, the CNIC of the shopkeeper and were snatching a repeater gun from private security guard Amanullah posted at the shop. However, the guard resisted and opened fire at one of the alleged robbers, killing him on the spot, the duty officer said.

The police seized the looted money, the CNIC and a pistol from the possession of the dead suspect.
