KARACHI: Three suspects allegedly involved in the Shershah scrap market carnage that claimed the lives of 13 people were on Wednesday arrested by the Pakistan Rangers, Sindh.
“Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) in the ongoing crackdown [against criminals] arrested three suspects of Shershah incident and recovered arms from their possession,” said a brief statement of the Rangers.
The Rangers did not disclose the names of the suspects.
However, official sources in the investigation section of the police said that the arrested suspects were associated with one of the alleged criminal gangs operating in Lyari and nominated in the FIR lodged for the Shershah incident.
They said that the Rangers carried out a raid on a place in Lyari and arrested the suspects.
“The suspects are still in Rangers’ custody. They have been identified as Shafi Magsi, Pervez and Nawaz. All of them are close aides of Baba Ladla, the prime suspect,” said a source citing initial information.
The police last month arrested a suspect, Lal Muhammad Magsi, in Sukkur. He was among 17 persons nominated in the FIR.
Thirteen people were killed and five others wounded when about 10 armed men went on a killing spree in the Shershah scrap market on October 19.
The Pak Colony police had registered a case (FIR 578/2010) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997 on the complaint of a survivor, Mohammad Nafees.
The complainant, a resident of Mehmoodabad who owned a shop in the market, nominated Noor Mohammad alias Baba Ladla and 16 other associates of the slain Rehman Dakait in the FIR.
