ISLAMABAD, Feb 15: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani will inaugurate on Monday a tripartite conference being held to draft a new labour law to replace the controversial Industrial Relations Ordinance, 2002.

Officials of federal and provincial governments and representatives of employers and employees will attend the conference. The ordinance was recently repealed by the National Assembly and the government temporarily restored the Labour Act of 1969 and sought one year to get a new law approved.

An official handout said: “The Ministry of Labour and Manpower will be holding a tripartite labour conference on Monday to review labour laws aimed at mitigating problems of the labour community.

Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani will inaugurate the conference.

“Representatives of federal and provincial governments, employers and workers will participate in the meeting to discuss Industrial Relations Act, 2008, Bill for Employment Service Conditions Act and Occupational Safety and Health.

“On recommendations of the conference, these laws will be suitably amended to make them in conformity with international practices and placed before the parliament for approval.”
