Chief secretary seeks report on ‘irregularities’ in land lease

By Our Correspondent

GUJAR KHAN, Feb 15: Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Mehmood has directed the revenue department to submit him a report on allegations of irregularities in the award of Gujar Khan stadium land on lease, Dawn has learnt.

According sources, the chief secretary took the decision on reports published in the press. The sources said an independent enquiry can also be ordered if any sort of deviation from rules and regulations was found in the report.

The nazim of Gujar Khan city union council at a press conference had alleged that the revenue department of Gujar Khan tehsil had given undue favour to a bidder for getting the land on rent. He alleged that the winning party was already defaulting on the rent of the land which was still under its possession.

The PML-N city president, Khwaja Naeem Qayyum, in a press conference called upon the chief minister and the chief secretary Punjab to order probe into the matter.

Meanwhile, town municipal officer Chaudhry Inaamur Rahim, has issued notice to the party warning it against construction of shops on the stadium land.

The TMO visited the site where construction was underway. He found that the party after getting the stadium land on rent had started construction work without getting the map or site plan approved by the competent authority.

Mr Qayyum said the site plans for locations along the GT Road were approved by a design committee.
