MIRPURKHAS, Jan 12: Local scholars of the Sunni and Shia sects agreed on Monday that matters pertaining to objectionable remarks against any sect at religious gatherings would be reported first to the area police for immediate action against the accused so that any untoward incident could be avoided in the district.

Moulana Hafeezur Rehman Faiz, Hafiz Akbar Rashid, Moulana Shabbir Karnalvi, Moulana Mufti Sharif Saeedi, Sadiq Saeedi, Zakir Ziaul Hassan Naqvi and others held a joint meeting at the Police complex, which was also attended by Mirpurkhas DIG Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah Jamote, DCO Ghulam Hussain Memon and DPO Muneer Ahmed Shaikh.

The meeting reviewed the city situation and decided that leaders of both sides would cooperate with the district administration and would point out any such incident to the police so that immediate action could be taken against the accused.

Six peace committees, three from each side, had been constituted to probe into the incident of Chaki Para, which would submit a report to the DPO highlighting the causes of the disturbance. The committees would work to calm down the situation in the district.

DIG Mirpurkhas zone Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah Jamote, DPO Muneer Ahmed Shaikh, and DCO Ghulam Hussain Memon also spoke.

Our Larkana correspondent adds: Larkana DIG retired Commander Shoukat Ali Shah on Monday ordered an inquiry into Sunday’s clash between members of two schools of thought in Larkana in which four persons were injured.

Speaking at a meeting held here with representatives of all sects, he said that if any lapse was found on part of the police, action would be taken accordingly.

Larkana District Coordination Officer Mohammed Jaffer Abbasi presided over the meeting where the participants assured the officials of maintaining peace in the district.

The meeting condemning the incident said that miscreants were outsiders and their aim was to disturb the peace in the district. They called for strict action against them.

The participants appealed to the members of all schools of thought to maintain peace and not to allow miscreants to sabotage peace. The meeting urged all the stakeholders to practice restraint and to remain in touch with the district administration.
