Mafia boss escapes through sewage tunnels

ROME, Jan 12: A suspected mafia boss on Italy’s most wanted list escaped arrest on Monday through a tunnel dug under his home linked to the local sewage network, Italian news agency ANSA reported.

Giuseppe Setola, 38, slid out as police arrived at his home near the southern city of Naples, with officers seeking his arrest as part of an investigation into the killing of six African immigrants in September.

The police arrested Setola’s wife and seized computers, electronics material and surveillance cameras at his home in Trentola Ducenta, about 20 kms north of Naples, Sky-TG 24 news channel reported. It is not the first time that Setola has managed to escape police.

Police, security forces and army paratroopers have carried out a number of operations in the region in recent months, arresting seven members of the Camorra mafia in October.
