Mulla Omer’s ‘nephew’ held

LAHORE, Dec 30: Police on Tuesday arrested a youth who allegedly demanded extortion from traders by pretending himself to be a nephew of Taliban amir Mulla Omer.

Ichhra investigation police said some `victims’ of the accused, including Qaumi Tajir Ittehad president Muhammad Abdullah, informed them about phone calls being made by an unidentified man who used to demand ransom and threatened to kidnap them or their children in case of refusal. Mr Abdullah told the police that the unidentified caller had introduced himself as a nephew of the Taliban leader and demanded Rs20 million.

A police team traced Rana Zeeshan through his cell phone record and arrested him from Pakpatan.—Staff Reporter
