Support fund: still on the cards?

Published December 6, 2008

KARACHI, Dec 5: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin said in a late night show on a private TV channel that the idea of stock market support fund had not been totally abandoned.

“The government is still in talks with the IMF on the support fund,” he said. A market participant who could be reached thought that the adviser had all but created more waves in the already turbulent sea of market turmoil. “It is a good omen that the support fund idea is alive,” said one stock broker, “but why provide information in bits and pieces?” he asked.
