ISLAMABAD, Nov 29: Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin has promised Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (Prgmea) that the government will provide all-out support to the sector.

Talking to a delegation of Prgmea that called on him here on Saturday, the adviser noted that the apparel sector’s export during June-September stood at $1157.29 million which needed to be enhanced.

Tarin also appreciated value additions made by domestic textile and garments manufacturers that help support our consumption and exports in local and international market.

The delegation, which was led by Pakistan Apparel Forum chairman Bilal Mulla, informed the adviser about the industry’s financial problems and impediments which needed government’s urgent attention more specifically the R&D support to the garments sector.

Mr Tarin said the government had put in place an integrated energy generation plan that, once implemented, would resolve uninterrupted power supply issues to the garments sector.

He explained that with the establishment of Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs), the apparel sector would receive governments support to promote production-led growth in garments and textile sectors.

He also assured the delegation that relevant government organisations should sit together, complete its homework, and shortly shall come out with a clear policy framework supportive to Pakistan’s apparel sector.

The adviser advised the ministry of textile development, Federal Board of Revenue and other government stakeholders to sit with representatives of Prgmea to jointly work out a support plan for the apparel industry.—APP
