HYDERABAD: Body threatens fast-unto-death

Bureau Report

HYDERABAD, Nov 20: The Employees Action Committee, Sindh Small Industries Corporation has warned of hunger strike unto death if concerned authorities did not reinstate the 12 dismissed workers within 48 hours.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Thursday, Mr Noor Mohammad Baloch, Sami-uz-Zafar, Ali Haider Brohi, Shoukat Ali Baloch and others said that they had been protesting for last two week for the reinstatement of their colleagues but authorities took no notice.

They claimed that 12 workers confirmed employees were dismissed from services due to the intrigues of pocket union and a private secretary to the power that be.

They said that the pocket union of employees had maintained its hegemony for 20 years in connivance with corrupt officers and misappropriated tens of millions of rupees of the corporation.

They said the reason behind the dismissal of 12 workers was their refusal to join pocket union. They said the dismissal was illegal as its orders were not signed by the competent authority.

They regretted that on one hand the government was reinstating sacked workers of Sui gas while on the other regular employees were being fired.

It appears the administration was working against the government by inciting workers, they said.
