KARACHI, Nov 19: The Sindh Assembly will meet on Monday at 10am in the assembly building. This was announced by provincial Minister for Law Ayaz Soomro on Wednesday.

Talking to newsmen, he pointed out that the assembly had already covered 58 days of sittings during the current year as against the minimum requirement of 70 days.

About the upcoming session, he said the government would bring some bills for legislation, adding that the treasury side intended to hold more sittings by year end to make it 150 days of sittings in a calendar year.

The minister said that Dec 27, the anniversary of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto’s assassination, would be observed as a “black day”.

Mr Soomro said that the previous government had detached the criminal prosecution section from the law ministry to make it a full department without realising the financial implications involved. Now, in consultation with Senior Minister Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq, it would again be made a section of the law department, he added.

He said the PPP government would gradually undo all the changes made during the Musharraf government to fulfil its commitment of restoring the 1973 constitution. He said he had written to the chief justice of the Sindh High Court about empowering EDOs and Mukhtiarkars so that they could take action against profiteers and hoarders of essential commodities.
