KARACHI: Action against profiteers

KARACHI, Nov 12: City Government officials with magisterial powers penalised 105 people for profiteering in different areas of the city. They were found selling wheat flour at a rate higher than the one fixed by the government.

Those arrested were sent to jail. Fines amounting to a total of Rs500,000 were imposed on more than 400 traders on the same account.

The campaign against sale of flour at higher than the prescribed rate has been launched on the order of the chief controller of prices and Karachi DCO, who has also directed the revenue department to take action against profiteers. During the crackdown on the profiteers, several hundred shopkeepers and traders have been penalised and 97 of them sent to jail so far.

Meanwhile, the city government’s community police nabbed three persons while they were allegedly indulging in unauthorised road cutting near Johar Morr. The three men were handed over to the area police who registered an FIR against them. In Saudabad and Khokhrapar areas, four persons were picked up and handed over to the local police on the same charges.

Action against those individuals and organizations indulging in unauthorized road cutting has been ordered by city nazim.—PPI
