KARACHI, Nov 9: Speakers at a seminar held at Khatoon-i-Pakistan Govt Girls College on Saturday lauded Syed Riaz Ahsan’s services to the cause of education and welfare of the teaching community during his tenure as president of the Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association (SPLA).

The seminar, held under the aegis of the SPLA, Karachi region, was presided over by Karachi University Vice-Chancellor Prof Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui. Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai, Prof Hashmatullah Lodhi, Prof Ghulam Sabir, Prof Dewan Aftab and Prof Ather Hussain Mirza were among those who spoke on the occasion.

Prof Siddiqui recounted SPLA’s achievements under the dynamic leadership of Prof Ahsan, and said he had played a vital role in the teachers community’s successful campaign for the introduce of a centralized admission policy for admissions to colleges and setting up of vigilance teams for examination for curbing cheating.

Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai described the late SPLA leader as a facilitator who always tactfully and decently presented the teachers community’s case to the authorities. He said Prof Ahsan had managed to bring and kept lecturers and professors serving across the country to a single platform.

A message of Prof Ahsan’s wife, Ms Sadia Ahsan, a senior lawyer associated with the provincial law department, was read out at the seminar by a former SPLA leader, Prof Dewan Aftab Ahmed. She offered her services to the SPLA for its cause of education and teachers community’s welfare.
