Payment of support price to paddy growers urged

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Nov 6: Acting President Dr Fehmida Mirza on Thursday directed the Sindh government to ensure payment of support price of paddy fixed by the government to the growers.

She gave these directions after meeting a delegation of Sindh Paddy Growers Association, which met her in Parliament House.

While talking to the delegation, the acting president said that the country was facing shortage of food grains, which was being addressed on war footing. She said that the government had allocated a substantial amount as subsidy to the farmers on fertiliser and other inputs.

She said that the government was committed to provide cheap agriculture inputs to the growers so that they could enhance their agricultural produce and make the country self-sufficient in food grains.

The delegation apprised the acting president about the problems being faced by the growers in Sindh. They appreciated the steps taken by the government for the resolving the growers’ problems.

They said that the steps taken by the government would have far-reaching effects and would increase the agriculture output and make the country self-sufficient in food grains and other crops.
