BADIN, Oct 21: Badin police have reportedly arrested a taluka municipal contractor Veero Mal on the charge of keeping the engine of a fire tender in his possession here on Monday but the contractor instantly denied the charge and told journalists that he was being implicated in the case by some officials.

The contract of repairing the fire tender was awarded by the TMA to the contractor, which was later cancelled on the complaints by the elected representatives. The contractor handed over the fire tender but its engine was missing.

The Badin police did not register a case and were waiting for formal complaint on the part of the TMA.

MEETING: The monitoring committee held a meeting to discuss ways to control the prices and hoarding of flour in the district.

The meeting was presided over by the District Officer Revenue Javad Akram which was attended by the DDOs, mukhtiarkars and District Food Controller.

It was decided that the food department would supply wheat to chakkis in the district without fail and the chakki owners would arrange supply of flour to the shopkeepers, who would ensure its sale at government-fixed rate of Rs23.50 to people.

The committee members would conduct surprise visits and would take immediate action against those selling atta on higher prices.
