PESHAWAR: 2 Afghans held with explosives

Bureau Report

PESHAWAR, Oct 20: The city police on Monday claimed to have arrested two Afghan nationals from Board Chowk of the University Road and recovered explosives from their possession.

An official said that the accused, Hazrat Wali son of Gul Wali and Hidayatullah son of Qalandar Shah, presently residing at Wahid Garhi were arrested in the limits of Tehkal police station during routine checking. He said both the Afghans were planning to plant explosives somewhere in the city but police foiled their designs.

The seized explosives, he said, included 15 dynamite sticks, 14 fuses, rubber parts and some other related items used in making bombs.

The official said the accused were interrogated, however, it seemed that they were planning to blow up CD and video shops in the city.

He said another Afghan national was arrested a few days ago while coming from Bara, Khyber Agency to Peshawar and recovered explosives from him. He claimed that the accused had admitted his involvement in blowing up of many CD centres and video shops in Peshawar.
