KARACHI, Oct 20: An additional district and sessions judge on Monday jailed for life a man and his son in a murder case.

The court found Abdullah, son of Karim Bux, and his son, Shahzad, guilty of murdering Ghulam Akbar on March 24, 2005 in the limits of New Karachi Industrial Area police station.

The additional district and sessions judge-V, Central, Tasneem Sultana, pronounced the judgment after recording final arguments of both sides. The court also imposed a fine of Rs100,000 on each convict, and in case of non-payment of the fine, the convicts would undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

According to the judgment, the prosecution had successfully proved their case against the accused by providing solid and sufficient documentary evidence and witnesses before the court.

According to the prosecution, Abdullah’s wife was said to be fond of Ghulam Akbar and wanted divorce from her husband in order to marry the deceased.

The police had registered a case (FIR No47/05), on the behalf of the state, under Sections 302 and 109/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code against the father and the son at New Karachi Industrial Area police station.

Meanwhile, the administrative judge of the Accountability Courts, Karachi, Syed Aley Maqbool Rizvi, on Monday remanded two brothers in judicial custody for their alleged involvement in a car scam.Mohammad Farooq and Mohammad Farid, sons of Abdul Qadir Tawakkal, were arrested by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sindh, on their arrival at the Karachi airport from the US.

According to the reference pertaining to the KIA Pride car scam, the brothers, along with their father, had allegedly deprived over 16,000 people of their money through advance booking of vehicles from across the country.

They had collected Rs800 million but did not provide vehicles to their customers and had fled to the US, according to the reference.

The court had declared both the brothers absconders in the reference filed by NAB while their father was released on bail.

NAB initiated extradition proceedings against the accused from the US and finally the US authorities handed them over to Pakistan.

Sources in the NAB courts said that besides the KIA Pride car scam, there were seven more references pending in the accountability courts against Mr Tawakkal and his sons.
