PCB media director lands in hot waters

By Mohammad Yaqoob

LAHORE, Oct 12: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to take strict action against its media director Mansoor Suhail for violating the board’s media policy in sending too many journalists to Canada to cover the ongoing Twenty20 Cricket Cup there.

Informed sources told Dawn that the new chairman Ijaz Butt has showed his resentment over the violation and he expects to be given an explanation regarding the matter by the media director upon his the return from the tour.

Mansoor Suhail violated the policy by picking five reporters from different news agencies, while the policy allows only one for each tour. Furthermore, the policy, which was formed with the mutual consent of the journalists after having several sessions with them, also says that journalists may tour once in a year. But the many reporters on the Canada tour are enjoying their second trip this year.

Sources said that the new chairman was also annoyed over the fact that the media director did not inform him about his own plan of visiting Canada too along with the national team.

Moreover, the chairman has issued orders to call back peon Nawaz Ahmad and fax operator Sabir Hussain back to the PCB offices, as they had been transferred by the previous management which alleged that they were leaking news.

Both employees had been transferred to Sialkot and Cricket House, without having been given a chance to clear the allegation, sources said. The previous management was also not paid Nawaz his salary for five months, without giving him any reason for doing so. However, the new chairman has ordered releasing all his dues forthwith.
