KARACHI: Movement of heavy vehicles banned
KARACHI, Sept 27: The city government has imposed a ban under Section-144 on the movement of all types of upcountry-bound heavy vehicles — including trucks, loaders, dumpers and oil-tankers — on Ibne Sina Road, S.M. Taufeeq Road, Shahrah-i-Pakistan, Nawab Siddique Ali Khan Road, Shahrah-i-Shershah Suri, Shah Waliullah Road and 5,000 Road. These roads fall in the jurisdiction of four towns — Liaquatabad, North Nazimabad, Gulberg and New Karachi — where key thoroughfares have been reconstructed and utility lines realigned to facilitate a smooth flow of traffic and safe movement of pedestrians, besides ensuring an uninterrupted water and power supply, secure telecommunication facilities and proper drainage system.
A statement issued on Saturday said that the ban had come into force immediately and would remain effective for seven days. It observed that movement of heavy vehicles on these roads had been causing problem to the general public and traffic jams during Ramazan and on the eve of Eidul Fitr.—Agencies
