Ghinwa blames ‘forces’ for her defeat in polls

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, Sept 20: The Pakistan People’s Party-Shaheed Bhutto chairperson Ms Ghinwa Bhutto said on Saturday that had she been in the parliament she would never have voted Asif Ali Zardari or Nawaz Sharif and that was the reason ‘the forces’ orchestrate her defeat in elections.

Addressing a large gathering in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto marking the 12th death anniversary of her assassinated husband Mir Murtaza Bhutto, she said that Pakistan was passing through a difficult phase.

She said that growing international dangers were affecting domestic affairs. “We want to build Pakistan in line with the vision of late Mir Murtaza Bhutto where the masses will rule,” she said adding that the politicians in power were multiplying peoples’ sufferings.

She said that the rulers’ politics revolved around their interests. Former President Musharraf who served US interests was responsible for attacks on the country, she said.

The chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry was sidelined when he began delivering justice to people and the lawyers’ movement had weakened the former president.

She said that Ms Benazir Bhutto came back with a vision and commitment and was eliminated when she did not follow them. Mian Nawaz Sharif had been allowed to come back home to get Ms Benazir Bhutto’s popularity eroded. Now Makhdoom Amin Fahim had been pushed to the sidelines, she said.

She said that all the leaders had a tilt towards Americans. Instead of visiting friendly countries the prime minister had gone to the US while President Asif Zardari preferred to tour UK instead of China.

Like his father Mir Murtaza Bhutto was intelligent and visionary who stood for the welfare of the downtrodden, she said.

The Sindh National Front (SNF) chief Mumtaz Ali Bhutto said Mir Murtaza laid down his life for the rights of people. Sacrifices for Bhutto family were not a new thing for they had a history of fearlessly fighting against dictators, he said.

He said that big powers had brought about a deal between retired Gen Musharraf and Ms Benazir Bhutto.

He said that he would not allow Zardari to be buried in Bhuttos’ graveyard. Amir Bakhsh Bhutto, Ms Fatima Bhutto and Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Junior were among those who attended the gathering.
