KARACHI, Sept 20: An anti-terrorism court recorded the testimony of a judicial magistrate in a kidnap for ransom case on Saturday.
Mohammad Ikramullah is facing trial for kidnapping the wife of Umer Naveed, Mahnaz, from the Gizri police limits.
According to the prosecution, the accused had kidnapped the woman on April 29 and released her when a sum of Rs2 million was paid to him as ransom. He was arrested in a raid conducted by the police in a Gizri area on June 10. A case was registered under Section 365-A of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act at the Gizri police station on the complaint of victim’s husband.
Judicial magistrate Asif Ahmed, appearing in court on Saturday, deposed that he had conducted the identification parade of the suspect after completing all legal formalities. He said both the victim and her husband had identified the suspect during the parade.
Judge Abdul Ghafoor Memon of ATC-II, who is conducting the trial, adjourned the hearing till Sept 25.
Meanwhile, the same court issued arrest warrants for the DDO revenue of Gadap Town for not submitting a report under Section 88 of the Criminal Procedure Code (attachment of property of person absconding), directing the police to arrest and produce him in court till Sept 26.
According to the prosecution, the suspects on June 20 had allegedly kidnapped Ghulam Abbas from Liaquatabad flyover and demanded Rs1.5 million for his release. The suspects later collected the ransom and released the captive. The suspects, Rashid Bolach alias Ustad and Saleem alias TT, were arrested from Shah Latif Town.
