HYDERABAD, Sept 7: Candidates seeking teaching jobs have demanded withdrawal of the condition of 60 per cent marks to qualify job test, keeping in view the educational standard in the interior of Sindh.

A large number of youths, who have passed IBA-conducted test for the post of school teacher staged a demonstration here on Sunday to protest against delay in their appointment.

Speaking on the occasion, Syed Attaullah Shah, Talib Khatiyan, Sherbaz Noonari and others said that they had obtained at least 40 per cent marks, required to qualify the test, in the Arbab Rahim era. However, the Pakistan People’s Party, after coming into power, changed the criterion and declared that 60 per cent marks were necessary to clear the test.

They demanded withdrawal of the condition of 60 per cent marks and appealed to President-elect Asif Ali Zardari and Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq to ensure issuance of their appointment orders.

They said that under a World Bank-funded programmes, 14,000 candidates are to get teacher’s job but the Sindh government had issued appointment letters to only 7,000 candidates.

They alleged that several appointments had been made on the basis of bribery or favouritism at the cost of qualifying candidates.

ROBBERS: SP, investigation, Tando Allahyar, Altaf Malik, in a late night briefing to journalists on Saturday said that three robbers, who had been arrested after looting cash and mobile phones from a Mobilink franchise, belonged to Karachi.

He said that the car used in the crime had been taken on rent.

He said that two bandits had managed to escape.
