Five power projects approved

ISLAMABAD, Sept 5: The cabinet committee on ‘fast track power generation’ cleared on Friday five power projects to generate 1,365MW.

The proposals approved are: three power projects of 929MW capacity to be installed by independent power producers and two rental plants of 436 MW.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee held under the chairmanship of Water and Power Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf.

The IPPs will come up online before December 2009 and rental plants within six to seven months. The recommendation will be considered by the Economic Coordination Committee in its next meeting.

Mr Ashraf said that in order to achieve the objective of generating power on fast track, work would have to be done a war footing.

He directed the officials concerned to give top priority to completing the projects as soon as possible.

The minister directed Pepco to avoid unscheduled loadshedding and ensure uninterrupted supply to consumers during Sehri and Iftar hours.
