QUETTA, Aug 26: The senior vice-president of the Jamhoori Watan Party (Aaly) and at least 36 other people were injured in a bomb explosion in a public meeting at Dera Allahyar on the second death anniversary of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.

Police also defused a bomb placed near an office of the party in Dera Murad Jamali.

According to a witness, Dhani Bakhsh, hundreds of supporters of the JWP faction had gathered outside the party’s office on Tehsil Road in Dera Allahyar when the explosion rocked the town.

The party’s senior vice-president, Khadim Hussain, was also injured.

Six seriously injured people were taken to Larkana and the rest were admitted to the local Civil Hospital.

Jaffarabad District Police Officer Nazir Ahmed Kurd said the bomb attached to a motorbike had been detonated by remote control.

He said some suspects had been taken into custody.

In Dera Murad Jamali, the bomb found near the rear wall of the JWP-A office contained 58kgs of explosives, police said. Police had received a tip about the bomb.

Militants also blew up a pipeline in Sui area which supplied gas to Karachi.

Official sources said the Sui Southern Gas Company continued supply to the Sindh capital through another pipeline.

Meanwhile, three people were injured in a grenade attack on the residence of the Sibi district jail superintendent.

LECTURER HELD: Police arrested a lecturer of the Balochistan University and another suspect for hurling a grenade on the city police station and seized two grenades, a pistol and “objectionable literature” from the professors’ hostel.
