KARACHI: ‘500 vehicles to start plying’

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 22: The chairman of the All Ports and Trucks Trailer Owners Association, Malik Mohammad Ilyas Awan, said that the association had decided to disassociate itself from the ongoing strike being observed by a group of transporters.

At least 500 vehicles would start operating from Saturday, he said.

He alleged that he was continuously receiving death threats from the members of his rival group.

Mr Awan claimed that at least four ships had sailed out without any containers on Friday from the two ports due to the strike.

He said that his association had been unconditionally supporting the Supreme Council of Karachi Goods Transport Ittehad but keeping in view the country’s economic and political crisis, the association had parted ways from them.
