Businessmen to meet Zardari
By Sabihuddin Ghausi
KARACHI, Aug 22: Top business leadership from Karachi, Peshawar and other cities expect to meet the PPP leader Asif Ali Zardari before September 6, when election of the president is to be held. A similar meeting scheduled for next Monday at Islamabad was put off because of the hectic political activities that grip the federal capital.
Mr Zardari had convened a meeting of all those business leaders, who about a week ago issued statements to media calling for quick exit of former president Musharraf to end political uncertainty. “We are convinced that the nomination of Mr Zardari as a candidate for the presidency with full support of Muttahida Qaumi Movement is a good omen for restoring political stability and putting back the country on the path of economic and social progress,’’ Zubair Motiwala, a former president of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry said.
Motiwala is one of the signatories with Siraj Kassim Teli and several other members of the KCCI managing committee, who declared support for the nomination of Mr Zardari as president of Pakistan in a joint statement on Friday.
“We have no political affiliation and we represent entirely the business community,’’ Siraj Kassim Teli clarified in the statement. But Mr Zardari belongs to Sindh and the MQM is a representative party of this province.
