LAHORE, Aug 12: A card of six events, comprising ordinary runners, a majority of which belong to unknown pedigrees, awaits race goers during the day/night midweek Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday evening.

In all, 67 horses, barring last-minute withdrawals, will vie for the events to be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres.

The feature event, the Chunian Plate, a class VI division I and II combined handicap race has nine runners, if there are no last-minute withdrawals. Of them three come in to reckoning. They are Philogyny, Bird Fly and Black King.

The three-year-old filly, Philogyny, who was beaten to third place behind Iconic and Dam Dama Dam last Sunday, should make amends and win the race this time.

The filly is owned by Zaheer Aslam and trained by Abdul Rasheed. The owner has a good stable but he his horses seldom win.

Dam Dama Dam, Bird Fly and Jung Ju should fight for the places.

Suleman Love, Murad The Great and Dogar Gift are the pick of ten runners listed for the supporting and fifth race, the Chunian Plate, class VI division III and IV. Suleman Love and Dogar Gift are the speedy animals. Suleman Love is faster but Dogar Gift enjoys handicap advantage at the lowest weight. The rider matters the most in such events.

Pappu Khan, Pretty and Sohna Murad look good in the 13 strong field for the fourth race, the Sahiwal Plate, class VII division I. They should fight for picking the spoils in this race. The third race is packed with form horses and may provide thrills for the punters. However, on form Pawan Princess, Bagh-o-Bahar, Khan Baba, Golden Falcon and Miss Mano attract attention on recent form and they have seldom been out of the board. But a couple of stables have bad reputations. When backed for a win and a place, they disappoint their backers. Any how Pawan Princess Golden Falcon, with a facile victory on the trot each, should fight for making it two-in-a-row.

In the first two races, there are horses who are well-known for the inconsistency in performance and they are on chance, which will make winner picking difficult for the backers.

All races will be contested over the sprinting distance of 1,000 metres. The first race will be held at 5.30pm.
