KARACHI, Aug 12: Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) beat Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) 5-1 and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) and Navy played a 1-1 draw in Tuesday’s two Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) matches.
The first match between KRL and KESC, a high-scoring and one-sided affair at the People Sports Complex, also saw KRL’s striker Mohammad Rasool scoring a hat-trick.
The first goal for the winners though came in the 17th minute through KRL’s winger Mohammad Qasim who kicked Rasool’s failed attempt back inside the goal when it rebound off the wicketkeeper’s legs. Tackling the ball at top speed, leaving behind the opponents’ defenders, Rasool got his first goal in the 37th minute followed by another in the 40th minute. The score at interval was 3-0.
Rasool completed his hat-trick soon after the beginning of the second half, in the 52nd minute while KESC’s skipper Akbar Ali managed to score for his side through a penalty kick 10 minutes later. Not that it was going to make any difference to KRL who came up with their fifth goal in the 69th minute through their winger Abid Khan.
The other match between NBP and Navy, at the GDGK Stadium, saw Navy getting ahead through their 13th minute goal by striker Mohammad Basharat. The score was 1-0 at interval and remained so up until the final moments of the game when NBP’s striker Mohammad Asif struck for his side in order to level the match.
Like the goals, red cards too were distributed one each to the teams. Hence Navy’s Farhan Abdul Qadir and NBP’s Misbah Ul Hassan saw themselves as the recipients of the card that has them suspended from playing in their next respective matches.
Wednesday’s fixtures: Karachi Port Trust v Wapda at CDGK Stadium at 5.30pm. Habib Bank Limited v Army at Peoples Sports Complex at 5.30pm.
