HYDERABAD: 9,000 public representatives, officers to be trained

HYDERABAD, Aug 12: The Sindh Planning and Development Department would have 7,000 public representatives and 2,000 government officers trained by reputed academic institutions and civil service academies under the Gender Based Governance System project, said the project manager Eng. Abdul Fattah Tunio on Tuesday.

Addressing the first meeting of group of officers who would be provided training at Sindh Civil Services and Local Government Academy Mr Tunio said that it was a national project with five implementation units, one at each province.

He said that this five years project would be implemented in phases at an estimated cost of US $10 million. The cost would be met in collaboration with provincial governments and government of Pakistan under the umbrella of UNDP, he said.

He said that only in Sindh 9,000 stakeholders including 7,000 public representatives, nazims, naib nazims, women councillors, MPAs and MNAs and 2,000 targeted group of officers would be provided training at reputed academic institutions and civil services academies.

He said that the project was being implemented under the international commitment to create gender awareness.
