‘Safe exit’ decision after resignation: Nawaz

By Amjad Mahmood

LAHORE, Aug 11: PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif is reported to have declined to say anything about providing “safe exit” to President Pervez Musharraf even if he tenders his resignation.

Party sources told Dawn on Monday that Mr Sharif would say something on the issue only after he received the resignation.

According to the sources, the president wanted that he should not be prosecuted in case he vacated his office.

The president’s offer was conveyed to Punjab Chief Minis-

ter Shahbaz Sharif by Brig (retd) Niaz Ahmad on Sunday evening.

Brig Niaz is close to both President Musharraf and Mian Shahbaz Sharif.

The sources claimed that Brig Niaz called on Shahbaz after Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf’s close aide Tariq Aziz had met PPP co-chairman Asif Zardari with the same offer and the latter reportedly reacted positively.
