Crackdown on POs being launched

LAHORE, Aug 8: The government is launching a crackdown on outlaws in Sheikhupura and other districts of Punjab, Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan said while responding to a query raised by Sagheera Islam during question-hour of the Punjab Assembly here on Friday.

The minister said 281 murder cases and six kidnapping for ransom cases were registered in Sheikhupura district during 2007 against 540 and 24 suspects, respectively.

The minister said 429 and 20 suspects had been arrested in both categories while 111 and four, respectively, were at large and had been declared proclaimed offenders (POs).

He said no leniency would be shown regarding the arrest of POs and bringing them to book. — APP
