Commanders discuss security situation

By Our Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 7: Army’s corps commanders began on Thursday a two-day conference under Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani to discuss the security situation in the country with special reference to the ongoing military operations in Bajaur and Swat.

Informed sources quoted the army chief as telling the meeting that action against militants would continue till permanent peace was achieved. Those who were forcing their will on others and were out to destroy peace would be dealt with full force, he said.

Although there was no official statement, it is learnt that political developments, including the ruling coalition’s decision to impeach the president, was also discussed.

The sources said that the meeting resolved to continue concentrating on professional issues and avoid involvement in political issues.

The meeting was convened mainly to consider promotion of 650 brigadiers and a decision is likely to be taken on Friday.
