KARACHI, Aug 6: The directorate of customs intelligence and investigation seized 2,125 kilogrammes of poppy straws being brought into the city, a statement issued here on Wednesday said.

On a tip of that a truck carrying the contraband is on its way to Karachi, a team of the directorate’s intelligence officers intercepted the vehicle, bearing registration number (PX-0875), on the RCD Highway.

The team seized the 40 sacks of poppy straw laden on the vehicle and arrested its driver, Awal Raef.

After initial interrogation, the driver was given into judicial custody by the competent judicial authority, the statement said.
