HYDERABAD, July 27: Sindh Minister for Special Education Syed Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi has asked police to curb the sale of mainpuri and gutka in Tando Allahyar within a week.

Addressing an open kutchehry at the district nazim’s secretariat in Tando Allahyar, the minister said that the government was trying to solve people’s problems and provide basic amenities.

He said that in accordance with the instructions of Pakistan People’s Party co-chairperson and chief minister all ministers were to hold open katchehries in their constituencies to get first hand knowledge of the problems of their electorate and solve them on the spot.

He directed the EDO of education to ensure quality in development works in schools and their timely completion.

People complained about an acute shortage of water in the waterways of the area and open sale of mainpuri and gutka in the town and the minister directed the irrigation department to ensure supply of water to the tail-end of canals and asked police to stop the sale of the harmful drugs within a week.

FARMERS’ DEMANDS: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture at a meeting here on Sunday criticised the delay in payment of dues to sugarcane growers by sugar mills and demanded immediate payment.

The meeting noted with dismay and surprise that despite the unambiguous orders of the prime minister, the sugar mills had not cleared the outstanding dues of cane growers.

Expressing concern over an inordinate increase in the prices of fertilisers, the meeting called upon the authorities to ensure availability of fertilisers in the market without delay. It accused fertiliser dealers of hoarding and selling fertilisers in black market.

It urged the government to take serious notice of non-availability of fertilisers. They meeting further demanded that water should be released in all the waterways of Sindh immediately.

Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah presided over the meeting which was attended by Murad Talpur, Agha Nasrullah and others.
