KARACHI, July 12: Davis Cupper and third seed Jalil Khan survived a scare against Hyderabad’s unseeded Saad Baloch on way to making it to the men’s singles last eight in the Subh-e-Nau National Tennis Cup at Modern Club on Saturday.

Baloch who snatched first set from seasoned opponent 6-4 was trailing 5-6 in the second when he abruptly retired due to fatigue of travelling from Hyderabad to the city.

However, Baloch had some consolation when he teamed up with Umer Qazi to beat Ali Hasan and Babar Ali Khan 6-2, 7-6 in the men’s doubles fixture.

Joining Jalil in the last eight were top seed Aqeel Khan, second seed Asim Shafik, fourth seed Nomi Qamar, Tanveer Ashiq, Abid Ali Akber and qualifier Danish Ahmad.
