Baltistan gets separate health directorate

GILGIT, July 11: Authorities in Northern Areas have established a separate health directorate for Baltistan division with an eye to resolve administrative matters and provide the citizens with health facilities on their doorstep.

Officials said Dr Hassan had been appointed as the director, adding that a notification had also been issued in this regard.

Political and social figures hailed the decision and termed it a people-friendly step.

WATER PROJECT: The Northern Areas administration has approved a water supply project for Oshkandas, situated adjacent to Gilgit town, the Water and Sanitation Agency authorities said.

The project to be completed at a cost of Rs15 million will benefit scores of residents who were facing acute shortage of potable water.

Northern Area Legislative Assembly (NALA) member Aftab Haider has allocated funds for the project.
