Roof of operation theatre caves in

By Our Staff Correspondent

FAISALABAD, June 18: The Allied Hospital administration closed four operation theaters of the emergency ward when the roof of one of the theater caved in on Wednesday leaving a doctor injured, hospital sources said.

They said six doctors and four paramedics were operating two patients when the roof of the operation theater collapsed at 10am. Resultantly, doctor Shahid was injured. Following the roof collapse, sources said staff members rushed to some safer places and immediately called the hospital administration.

A paramedic said the administration had been informed about the dilapidated condition of the roof, but no body paid heed. They said theater lights had been installed ignoring the condition of the roof. The theaters were constructed just 20 years ago.

Sources said the administration had sealed three other operation theaters considering their condition deteriorated. Now patients would be treated in four remaining theaters of the emergency ward. The administration did not release any comment on the incident.

SUICIDE: Adil Sajjad, an employee of the Garden Branch of the TMA, Lyallpur Town, committed suicide by jumping from the roof of the TMA Complex here on Wednesday.

Police said Adil, a daily wager, had not been paid his salary for the last few months.
