KARACHI: Indictment of five terror suspects deferred
The civil judge and judicial magistrate, East, Pervez-ul-Qadir Memon, on Monday remanded 11 persons in jail custody till July 28 on the charges of creating law and order situation, rioting and arson. Police had arrested Zahid Hussain, Abbas and nine others for allegedly setting a vehicle of the City District Government Karachi ablaze when Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town administration removed encroachments from a 10-acre piece meant for residential plots for the KDA employees and parks in front of the University of Karachi. The prosecution said that a dozen of people had scuffled with town administration staff and set a CDGK vehicle alight when the staff tried to demolish hundreds of huts illegally built on the land. A case (FIR 299/08) was registered under Sections 147, 148, 149, 435 and 186 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Gulistan-i-Jauhar police station. The civil judge and judicial magistrate, Central, Sohail Ahmed, on Monday reissued a show-cause notice to the investigation officer, directing him to submit a charge-sheet by June 20 in a case registered against three policemen who had allegedly opened fire on two motorcyclists. Police constables Mohammad Imran, Arif Hussain and Salman Farsi had allegedly opened fire on Zubair Khan and Mohammad Saqib on March 21 near Shakhi Hassan, North Nazimabad. Both youngsters were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Zubair succumbed to his injuries while Saqib survived with serious wounds. Earlier, the court had issued about 10 show-cause notices to the IO and had also sent notices to him through the SSP and the DIG (investigation – west), directing the IO to submit a charge-sheet. However he failed to obey the court’s orders. A case (FIR 164/08) was registered under Sections 302, 324/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Taimuria police station against the policemen.
