MIRPURKHAS, June 7: Over a dozen haris (peasants), including women and children, who arrived in Mirpurkhas hari camp on Thursday after allegedly escaping from a prison of a landlord, Abdul Hakeem Liskani, in village Nauabad of taluka Jam Nawaz Ali, district Sanghar, staged a protest and took out a rally here on Friday.

The rally began from the railway station chowk and ended at the press club. They were carrying banners and placards. The peasants were demanding protection from the landlord.

Talking to journalists they said that they escaped from the prison of the landlord and took shelter in Mirpurkhas hari camp.

They expressed fear that henchmen of the landlord might kidnap them.

They claimed that they were bonded labourers working at gunpoint, and they were not allowed to move outside the prison.

They feared that the landlord and his henchmen could implicate them in false cases.

They appealed to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, PPO of Sindh and HRCP to take notice of the matter and provide them complete protection so that they could live without fear.

RANGERS DEPLOYMENT: The chairman of farmers organisation council (FOC) Sindh, Javed Junejo, welcomed the deployment of Rangers along Nara canal, said a press statement issued here on Friday.
