KARACHI: 33 inmates released

KARACHI, May 26: As many as 33 prisoners were released from various prisons of the province on Monday.

Fines amounting to Rs1.6 million remaining outstanding against these prisoners were paid and they were released from the prisons under the prime minister’s special package. Under the package, all such prisoners who cannot pay fines have been released from jails in the country.

This was stated by the adviser to the chief minister on jails, Gul Mohammad Jakhrani, while speaking on the occasion of release of prisoners from the Central Jail.

Mr Jakhrani said that out of the 33 prisoners released, 18 were let off from the Central Prison Karachi, 12 from Hyderabad, one from Sukkur and two from Khairpur.

IG Prisons Mohammed Yamin Khan, DIG Prisons Colonel Tariq and Jail Superintendent Nusrat Mangan were also present.

Out of 33 prisoners, three were foreigners belonging to Algeria, South Africa and Kenya.—APP
