KARACHI, May 20: Punjab’s unseeded Roshana Mehboob stunned second seed Hina Bashir from Sindh in straight sets to advance into the girls’ under-19 semi-finals of Roshan Khan Junior Open squash championship here on Tuesday.

It took her only 10 minutes to emerge 9-0, 9-2, 9-0 victorious against her opponent in a one-sided fixture at the PN Roshan Khan-Jahangir Khan Squash Complex.

She is drawn to meet her team-mate and third seed, Aliya Sarfaraz, who progressed by virtue of getting a walkover against Sindh’s Sufia Mughal.

Top seed Zoya Khalid of Punjab, who has experience of representing the country abroad, made a brisk start with an imposing 9-2, 9-3, 9-5 victory over Sindh’s Yusra Waheed.

She now faces fourth seed Andaleeb Younas who walked away with 9-0, 9-0, 9-0 victory over Sara Faiz in all-Punjab match.

The girls’ under-19 event has attracted fewer entries as compared to the girls’ under-15.

Meanwhile, top two seeds, Riffat Khan of Punjab and Sindh’s Habiba Khan along with unseeded Ayesha Zaffar and Mahrukh Shaikh, both from Sindh, propelled into the girls’ under-15 last four.

All the boys’ events have also reached the semi-final stage.

NWFP’s Asif Khan, who caught the eye by eliminating second seed Naveed Alam of Sindh on Monday, went down to Bilal Khan in the boys’ under-19 quarter-final.

After losing the opening game, Bilal staged a comeback to register a 9-10, 9-4, 9-7, 9-3 win in the 51-minute all-NWFP clash.

Talented Farhan Zaman, who toppled fourth seed Tahir Iqbal in the first round, continued his winning march by beating Izhar Khan 9-1, 9-2, 9-0.

Farhan will take on top seed Shoaib Hassan, who accounted for Ather Ali 9-0, 9-0, 9-1, while third seed Waqar Mehboob was home 9-2, 9-2, 9-4 against Umair Javed.
