SUKKUR, May 20: Chairman Flourmills Association Sindh Chapter Iqbal Dawood Pakwala has warned against depleting stock of wheat flour at the Utility Stores Corporation Sukkur. He said the Utility Stores were left with only a week’s supply and this too will cease if provision of wheat was not ensured.

He told newsmen wheat had not been supplied to Utility Stores this month which may stop flour supply in a week’s time as stocks were now at the end.

The Trading Corporation of Pakistan had not imported 2.5 tons of wheat as stipulated by the Prime Minister, he said adding the country would face severe wheat crisis by next month if status quo was maintained.

Expressing his apprehensions on wheat shortage, Pakwala disclosed the probable closure of 70 per cent of Karachi’s flour mills within three days, while 20 per cent had already pulled their shutters down.

He advised the government to stop selling wheat in the open market rather procure the commodity and supply it to flourmills on regular basis.

He urged upon the government to enter into an agreement with flourmills association in Sindh, as was done in Punjab.
