Ticking bomb on the roll in Pindi
RAWALPINDI, May 20: Security agencies have started a search for an explosive-laden vehicle which according to intelligence reports has entered the city and might strike any sensitive building in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Dawn has learnt.
A source said the security agencies were placed on high alert in the light of intelligence that the white car bearing Islamabad registration number had entered the city.
He said the police chiefs of the twin cities were also directed to take appropriate security measures to avert any such incident.
Security in the twin cities was further tightened in the light of the report, he added.
Meanwhile, at least eight vehicles were either snatched or stolen in different parts of Rawalpindi-Islamabad on Monday, police said. Malik Sher Khan’s car (RIX-258) was stolen from Ganjmandi, Danish Mushtaq’s motorcycle (HB-70) was lifted from Satellite Town, while Wajidur Rehman’s car (RLD-9992) was stolen in the Saddar Barooni area.
Mehmood Akhtar told the police that his car (FDV-958) was stolen from the Civil Lines. Similarly, Mohsin Naveed’s car (RIP-453) was taken way from Saddar while Nadeem Anwar’s carry van (RIW-5765) was stolen in RA Bazaar. Javaid Akhtar’s motorcycle (RIM-2226) was also stolen.
However, the snatching of a car (IDL-5474) by four gunmen put the Shahzad Town and Kural police in a fix over jurisdiction of the crime scene.—Staff Reporter
