HYDERABAD, May 20: Semester examinations of the University of Sindh will resume from Monday, May 26 as per already notified schedule and the postponed papers will be conducted at the end of the examinations.

Security measures would be adopted at main gates of the boys’ hostels and the campus and checking system would be initiated at main entrances of the campus to check entry of outsiders.

This was decided at separate meetings of Vice-Chancellor Mazharul Haq Siddiqui with the deans of faculties and heads of administrative sections and Hyderabad DIG Dr Sanaullah Abbasi on Tuesday.

A meeting of the deans of faculties and heads of administrative sections was convened to discuss new date of semester examinations.

The meeting decided that during power loadshedding, a generator would be installed at Central Library of the university to facilitate students.

In the meeting with the DIG, Mr Siddiqui expressed the hope that those involved in the murder of a university student would be arrested and said that the university and the students needed police protection. He suggested deployment of police at the main gate of the hostel and entry points of the campus to check the entry of outsiders.

The examinations were postponed after the killing of a BSC student, Abdul Nabi Brohi, in a clash between students on May 14. On that day, hostellers had blocked the Super Highway in protest against persistent power loadshedding and consequent water shortage at the campus during the ongoing examinations. After the protesters returned to the hostel, they held a meeting to devise further strategy of protest. A proposal to boycott the examinations was fiercely opposed by the activists of the Sindh People’s Students Federation, student wing of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, which led to a brawl and firing, resulting into the death of Mr Brohi.

VISIT: The vice-chancellor paid a visit to Allahdino Brohi village of Nawabshah district to offer condolence with the parents of Mr Brohi.

University Registrar Mohammad Saleh Rajar, Boys Hostel provost Dr Mohammad Siddiq Kalhoro and Institute of Commerce Director Professor Agha Riaz Hassan accompanied the vice-chancellor.—BoC
