KARACHI: Three PR officials suspended

KARACHI, May 20: The Pakistan Railways (PR) on Tuesday suspended a senior station master and two other staff members for their negligence that led to the rolling down of an empty train rake on Monday night.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Divisional Commercial Officer Kashif Rashid Yousufani said that the empty rake of 34-Down Super Express train had rolled down from platform No 1 of the Karachi Cantonment Station at 11.45pm towards the Karachi City Station. The rake was controlled at the RYD Yard under Clifton Bridge by the railway staff and brought back to the Cantonment Station, he said.

There was no passenger in the coaches as the Cantonment Station was the last/terminating station for 34-down Super Express and they had already left the train at around 11.05pm.

However, he said that the news about the incident as broadcast by some television channels, in which it was claimed that passengers had to jump off the train for their lives, was baseless.
